Council of Cardinals reviewed the impact of the pandemic

According to the Vatican Press Hall, on May 6, a regular meeting of the Council of Cardinals took place, which was held online due to the sanitary and epidemiological situation. Cardinals Oscar A. Rodriguez Maradiaga, Reinhard Marks, Sean Patrick O’Malley, Oswald Gracias and Fridolin Ambongo Bezungu joined from their countries; from the Vatican – Cardinals Pietro Parolin and Giuseppe Bertello and Secretary of the Council Monsignor Marco Mellino. The Holy Father followed the proceedings from the House of Saint Martha.
“During the meeting, following Pope Francis’s greeting, a number of current issues were discussed,” the communiqué notes. “Each cardinal described the situation in his own region, the economic and social consequences of the pandemic, and church initiatives for the benefit of health care, economic recovery and in support of those most in need. The Council members then discussed the working methodology required to revise and finalize some of the normative texts following the entry into force of the new apostolic constitution. In addition, further perspectives were touched upon, which opens the preliminary text. The next meeting is scheduled for June. “
