How are ordinary sins forgiven if confession is only for mortal sins?

QUESTION: if confession is obligatory only for mortal sins, then how are ordinary sins forgiven a person?

ANSWER: as we have already explained many times in our programs, mortal sin is a grave violation of God’s commandment, and confession of mortal sins is mandatory in order to be reconciled with God in the Sacrament of Repentance and to be able to start Holy Communion. Sin is mortal under three simultaneous conditions: first, it touches serious matter, and secondly, it is committed with full awareness of the act being done and with full consent of the will.
