On June 7, Pope Francis received Alexander Van der Bellen, President of the Republic of Austria, at a private audience at the Vatican Apostolic Palace.

According to the Vatican Press Hall, during the friendly meeting, good bilateral relations between the Holy See and Austria were confirmed. The parties touched upon a number of geopolitical, European and international issues, emphasizing the role of the Catholic Church in promoting solidarity, strengthening peace and universal brotherhood, as well as in caring for creation.

After a conversation with the Holy Father, the President of the Republic of Austria met with the Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin and the Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.
