The Department of Laity, Family and Life Affairs has released details of the World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly, which was established by Pope Francis. This holiday will be celebrated for the first time by the Catholic Church on 25 July. This year, the Holy Father chose for him the theme “I am with you all the days” (Mt 28.20).

The World Day will be held in order to “show the closeness of the Lord and the Church to the life of every elderly person, especially in this difficult time of the pandemic,” the Vatican Office said in a press release.

“I am with you all the days,” it is also a promise of intimacy and hope that can be exchanged between young and old. Indeed, not only grandchildren, not only young people are called to be in the life of the elderly, but also the elderly themselves, grandparents fulfill the evangelistic mission of proclaiming, prayer and giving birth to young people in faith ”.

To help organize this Day in local Churches and Catholic communities, the Department of Laity, Family and Life Affairs will post special pastoral manuals on the site of the Year of the Family Amoris laetitia.
