What’s wrong with two gay people living together?

QUESTION: if two gay men want to live together without claiming to be married or adopt children, then what’s wrong with that? Two people have positive feelings for each other – is there any sin in that?

ANSWER: The coexistence of two gay people in itself is not a sin, just as sexual orientation, or inclination, is not a sin in itself. Sin is action, that is, sexual relations between people of the same sex. This is a grave sin, since such a relationship is “devoid of essential and necessary order,” as stated in the “Persona Humana” Declaration of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. This is also stated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church: “Relying on the Holy Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as a serious form of debauchery, Tradition invariably declares homosexual acts to be absolutely illegal. They are contrary to natural law. They deprive the sexual act of its function of giving life. They do not stem from genuine emotional and sexual complementarity. In no case can they be approved ”(2357).
